Instructional DVD

Get confident using any computer recording system or audio multitrack software!

PRESS RECORD: The Smart Musician’s Guide to DIY Recording is a DVD training course that teaches musicians how to make great sounding multi-track recordings. It’s that simple. Whether you want to:

  • record your own demo
  • produce high-quality mp3s to upload to myspace or your own website
  • release your own EP or CD

…the PRESS RECORD DVD training course will give you the tools and the know-how you need to make better-sounding recordings—using whatever time, gear, and budget you have.

PRESS RECORD proves you don’t have to (a) have a big budget; (b) be a technical genius; or (c) devote weeks or months to learning how to record music.

Practical advice for musicians—guaranteed!

PRESS RECORD: The Smart Musician’s Guide to DIY Recording was developed and tested by musicians, for musicians. Working with his clients, Toronto-based indie musician/producer Michael Chambers noticed one thing in common—while DIY recording technology was getting more and more affordable, musicians were still frustrated with the DIY recording process. Artists came to him because they weren’t satisfied with the quality of their home demo recordings.

All these musicians already had the resources they needed to produce great recordings. They just didn’t know how to make the most of them!

Using the methods described on the DVD, Michael has helped musicians get big-budget results on micro-sized budgets, using the resources they already had.

The philosophy behind PRESS RECORD is simple:

  • Great recordings shouldn’t have to cost a lot of money to produce. Budget limitations don’t have to get in the way of making a good recording. The PRESS RECORD DVD training course will teach you how to record your music the best way possible by making the most of your resources—no matter what your recording budget is.
  • A good quality recording can get your song noticed—and a mediocre recording can kill it. Audiences are used to big-budget recordings. They won’t connect with your music if they’re distracted by recording flaws. Worse, most non-musicians can’t tell the difference between a bad song and simply a bad recording of a good song.
  • Most musicians don’t have time to learn complicated recording theory and systems. Your time is better spent doing what you do best—playing music. Why spend hours reading information you don’t need from a textbook? The most important aspects of music recording take a few hours, not weeks or months to learn. The PRESS RECORD DVD training course teaches you what you need to know, when you need to know it.
  • You don’t have to be a trained audio engineer to make a great sounding recording. The core principles behind good sound recording are simple and easy to understand. Michael Chambers has taught musicians with zero technical experience how to get great sound—and he can teach you too!

And unlike most home recording instructional DVDs, the PRESS RECORD DVD training course doesn’t limit you to any specific recording system or audio multitrack software. Instead, PRESS RECORD teaches you the core concepts of DIY recording, giving you the confidence to use any computer-based recording system you want—whether you use:

  • Logic Pro
  • Logic Express
  • GarageBand
  • Cakewalk Sonar
  • Pro Tools
  • Digital Performer
  • Nuendo
  • Cubase
  • …or any other computer-based digital audio workstation (DAW).

What the PRESS RECORD DVD training course will—and won’t—do for you

In the spirit of full disclosure, here’s what the PRESS RECORD DVD training course won’t do for you:

  • This course won’t walk you through the process of manufacturing, marketing and selling CDs. We decided to focus this course on getting great sound—period. Plus, there are already lots of great resources available for musicians who want to promote their own indie release (and the BONUS Musician’s Recording Reference Book, included with the PRESS RECORD DVD training course, lists all the best of them!)
  • It won’t get you a record deal. But, having a great-sounding demo will definitely increase your chances of getting your music out there. And, if you plan to record and market your own CD, maybe you don’t need a record deal!
  • It won’t make you into a great songwriter or performer. That part’s up to you!

Here’s what the PRESS RECORD DVD training course will do:

  • Save you time, money, and headaches—from Day One of your recording project!
  • Stop budget limitations from getting in the way of making a good recording
  • Give you the confidence to use whatever gear you have—and know exactly what equipment you need to take your recordings to the next level
  • Help you make the most of what you’ve got—time, musicians, equipment, and money!
